Chemistry in the green

Our neighbors in Ibbenbüren know us well, even though our name has changed several times: We started supplying chlorine here in 1963, as ECI, and we are still a key part of the chemical cluster on the Hauptstraße today. Since 2016, we have been operating a potash electrolysis plant in Ibbenbüren as a joint venture with Evonik. We produce chlorine, caustic potash and hydrogen from potash salt they supply. We supply chlorine and hydrogen to customers on site, who are connected to us via pipeline, and to Germany's chemical clusters by rail and road. The caustic potash is delivered by ship, rail and road to Evonik's customers.

In addition, we also produce water chemicals in Ibbenbüren, which are used for water and wastewater purification, as well as chemical downstream products.

Our work and projects

Nobian has set itself the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040. To support this, employees in Ibbenbüren are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our ecological footprint and find new ways to save energy. We also work together with external experts and students, which is also a way for us to foster enthusiasm for our industry among young professionals.

Flexibilizing production

Because our production is very energy-intensive, we can make our production more flexible: we ramp up the systems when there is a lot of renewable energy on hand, and we ramp them down when there is a shortage of energy. We are also constantly looking for ways to recycle our process heat as an energy source instead of discharging it. With success: our work in this area was already recognized in 2023 with a sustainability award from the VCI (news in German).

Students and apprentices

You can train for various professions with us: chemical technician, chemical laboratory technician, industrial mechanic and electronics technician for industrial engineering. In addition to a very good collectively agreed training allowance and collectively agreed additional benefits, we offer you a lump sum for teaching materials, travel allowances and much more. As part of your training with us, you will quickly take on responsibility for your own tasks. A very good standard of training and a familiar working environment are very important to us.

We also offer students the opportunity to write a practical bachelor's or master's thesis.
